“Capture Knowledge to Free the Mind, Possess Understanding
to Enhance the Body, Enslave Wisdom to Liberate the Soul.” – Young Black
Successful
This is
an original quote by Young Black Successful Clothing’s founder Maurice
Simpkins. The quote is much deeper than what it may seem as a first read. In
this post we are going to dissect it to pull the greater meaning and
inspiration from it.
“Capture Knowledge to Free the Mind” - The use of the word
capture in the first part of this sentence shows the dedication to working
toward a goal. To capture something one must first seek it. In this case the
object to be captured is Knowledge. Mr.
Simpkins is implying that you must seek Knowledge to obtain it. Knowledge is in
abundance in your surroundings, but it will not seek you. The Mind is a complex
system of thoughts and information stored inside of the brain. It processes
information into a practical format. Once you have Captured Knowledge, allow
your Mind to release the strongholds of inadequacy and reach a Freedom that
will be limitless in its endeavors.
“Possess Understanding to Enhance the Body” – The notion of
possessing understanding is not written to mean you will have a better
perception of something Instead in this context it means to have a better appreciation
of your Body. The use of “possess” in
referring to “understanding” suggests that you should be aware of your body and
appreciate its importance to your success as a whole. When you think of
enhancing your body, most focus on the physical. The body is ultimately enhanced by what is
entered into it. The foods you eat, and the beverages you drink are as important
to your body as exercise. So, in your quest to Enhance your Body, focus on it
from all aspects; physical (internal and external), mental and intellectual
health.
“Enslave Wisdom to Liberate the Soul” – The term “enslave”
usually carries a negative connotation, which is why Mr. Simpkins chose to use
it in this text. He wants to demonstrate how wisdom is such a prize that if you
want to keep it you must do so as if it is trying to escape you. Wisdom itself
has been a subject of intellects for many generations and civilizations when
trying to define just what “wisdom” is. It has carried many different meanings
and depths. Wisdom is not a standard concept that can be seen as a concrete
object. Wisdom is the ability for any person to have a deep comprehension of
any situation that they may be faced with or expected to act upon. Wisdom equals
mastery. With mastery begins liberation, Liberation of the Soul. The soul, like
the Mind, is bound, but the soul is bound by the lack of wisdom. Many people are aware of their soul but haven’t once
considered how their soul can be freed and made able to live.
Now that you have had an extensive look into the inner
workings of the quote by Mr. Simpkins, we want you to read the quote again and
see if you can see a deeper meaning in it as well. Feel free to post your
comments below with your own interpretations of the text.
